PORT SIDE SOLUTION
THE CURRENT PROCESS
Ports rarely have their own effluent or sewage treatment works. Ships offload food waste, grey water and sewage onto a fleet of lorries to drive it away to be processed. This waste is classed as hazardous waste which will be charged at a premium rate. Taking into consideration the distance travelled by the tankers taking away the waste, further extensive costs will be incurred.
Flushing out the bilges or cleaning the sulphides out of open exhaust scrubbers is often completed in port and the contents are dumped into the harbour. Alternatively, it is hastily cleaned out on the approach thereby leaving a trail of debris behind them.
It is easier and cheaper for cruise liner's to pump waste over the side. Ship waste is not something that any of the major cruise liners want to advertise to their customers. Offloading waste when in port, needs to be completed when the clients have disembarked, otherwise you run the risk of an unpleasant odour drifting up to customers. Not the final memory they are looking for!
OUR CONCEPT
Port Vision and Marine provide a waste treatment solution in port.
A ship will dock and unload food waste and plastics which will be processed. Grey water, sewage, bilge water and exhaust sludge will be pumped through a pipe to tanks and will be cleaned up through a a range of processes. After 24 hours of being processed, the output can be used either as fuel to heat water, provide electricity, or generate useable gases such as hydrogen, Co2 etc.
